This is an official message from the Nehalem Bay Emergency Volunteer Corps about local conditions that may affect health, safety or life. We are under a
Tsunami Advisory
(Advisory -> Strong currents likely -> Stay away from the shore)
There has been an earthquake in Chile of magnitude 8.8 that may produce a tsunami or waves/currents along our coast line. This is not a local strong tsunami – it is a distant or “tele-tsunami”. The beginning of the dangerous period is predicted to start at about 2:20 pm today (February 27) and end several hours later. There may be strong currents, of danger to swimmers, boaters, and beach walkers. Please stay away from the shoreline … do not go to look, as surprising waves or currents may cause unusual and sudden risk of danger. Wave in this area predicted to be 1 to 2 feet.
- Tsunami ratings and danger periods come to us electronically in messages to us from NOAA and NWS (National Weather Service West Coast/alaska Tsunami Warning Center).
- Remember that tsunami info usually comes in one of these forms:
- Warning -> Inundating wave possible -> Full evacuation suggested
- Watch -> Danger level not yet known -> Stay alert for more info
- Advisory -> Strong currents likely -> Stay away from the shore
- Information -> Minor waves at most -> No action suggested

I must tell the truth dude, your site is simply one of the best. I found it simply by scoping around Bing and in all honesty I am without a doubt thankful that I did. Keep it up. On a sidenote, http://videotrends.net/ has the first video footage I’ve seen on this event.
I must be honest bro, your page is simply incredible. I found it simply by scoping around AOL and to be honest I am without a doubt thankful that I did. Keep it up. On a sidenote, http://videotrends.net/ has the first video footage I’ve seen on this event.
Thanks for the kind words … it’s a labor of love. We hope many people will be prepared, and lives saved as a result.
