Weighing in on Tsunami Siren Planning

As Tillamook County, alongside its cities and fire departments, begins planning to phase out antiquated tsunami sirens some citizens have expressed concern. We’ve asked the local officials and experts to weigh in and share their opinions in the decision-making process. Technology is in place now. When Manzanita installed their sirens in 1992 we didn’t have cell phones or the internet.  We were told that if a tsunami warning happens, distant or local event, sound the sirens and move to high ground.  With the new information we now have about the distant tsunami inundation area, that is simply not the case.
